Aztech Air-Con take first KCKC Round
The inaugural race of the newly announced Kent Cup Kart Championship took place at Buckmore Park on 22nd March.

Aztech Air-Con took pole position ahead of Testlink, with Project One and Freestyle Extreme occupying row 2. After the intermittent snow/sleet showers that had been a feature of the F6 race meeting which preceded this endurance race, the track was wet for the start.

Carl Holmewood, driving the Testlink entry, took an immediate lead followed by Aztech Air-Con, Project One, G-Force and Dogz. Freestyle Extreme had made a steady start but were up to 4th by lap 6, as Testlink continued to lead.

Aztech took the lead on lap 15 and as they completed the first quarter of an hour, they led from Testlink, Dogz, Freestyle Extreme and Project One. Meanwhile, after starting at the back having only completed 3 laps in qualifying, Zestlink ( driven by Nichola Holmewood ) moved rapidly up the order to finish the first 15mins in 6th place and leading the Clubman category.

At the end of the first half hour the battle was still between Aztech and Testlink, both having completed 42 laps by this stage. One lap down were Dogz and Freestyle Extreme, with Zestlink now in 5th ahead of Custom Made Windows. The second placed Clubman class kart was that of Hammonds Heroes in 7th and still on the same lap as Zestlink.

As the pit-stops played out in the middle of the race, so the order changed around slightly, but the top 3 were Aztech, Testlink and Freestyle Extreme. Testlink led at half distance, while Freestyle had the lead after an hour, by which time Zestlink had a three lap lead over Hammonds Heroes in the Clubman class.

Leading as they started the last 15 minutes, Testlink suddenly slowed exiting the first turn and came to a halt at the first hairpin. Their demise handed the lead back to Aztech Air-Con and they held it to take the chequered flag first. Freestyle Extreme finished in second, but on the same lap, with Custom Made Windows coming through to take 3rd a couple of laps down.

Project One claimed fourth followed by G-Force and Dogz, while Zestlink duly wrapped up the Clubman honours with 7th overall. Hammonds Heroes took second in the Clubman class ahead of JAW Racing, with GJS and Roadworks rounding out the finishers several laps down after early delays and problems.

The next event takes place at Bayford Meadows on 3rd May.
